Breaking the Dieting Cycle: Why Fad Diets Are BS and What to Do Instead

This Is the Season You Stop Dieting For Good.

Let’s talk about something that has quietly run so many women’s lives for years: dieting.

If you’re a woman in midlife, chances are you’ve spent decades being told your worth lives in shrinking yourself. You’ve followed the rules. Counted the points. Cut the carbs. Drank the shakes. Bought the powders. Started over on Monday more times than you can count.

And if you’ve ever believed you failed a diet, let me say this clearly:

You didn’t fail the diet.
The diet failed you.

Dieting was never designed to empower you. It was designed to keep you stuck, frustrated, and buying the next promise.

And in midlife? Restriction doesn’t just stop working, it actively backfires.

This episode is about breaking up with diet culture for good and learning how to nourish your body in a way that actually works, hormonally, mentally, and emotionally.

This is liberation.
This is truth.
And this is the end of the bullshit.

Let’s get into it.

Big Truths From This Episode

Dieting Isn’t a Willpower Problem, It’s a Biology Problem

If dieting worked, you wouldn’t need to keep doing it.

The cycle always looks like this:
Restrict
Lose a little weight
Hit a plateau
Cravings explode
You binge
You feel guilty
You “start over”

That’s not a lack of discipline.
That’s your body doing exactly what it’s designed to do, protect you.

When you restrict, your body senses danger. Hormones shift. Metabolism slows. Cravings intensify. Fat storage increases.
Your body isn’t misbehaving.
She’s responding to survival cues.

You cannot punish your way into a healthy body.
And you can’t hate yourself into long-term change.

Diet Culture Hits Harder in Midlife

Diet culture tells you to:
Eat less
Try harder
Fear carbs
Count everything
Be smaller

But midlife physiology tells a very different story.

In midlife:

Dieting doesn’t balance hormones.
It disrupts them.

Dieting doesn’t speed metabolism.
It slows it.

Dieting doesn’t create freedom.
It creates obsession.

Even “Healthy” Diets Can Wreck You

I’ve seen it over and over and I lived it myself.

Keto.
Carb cycling.
Juice cleanses.
Fasting until you’re basically feral.
Low-fat.
No-sugar.
All of it.

Women training like beasts, eating like birds, exhausted and frustrated, convinced the answer was more restriction.

And when I fell into the same trap?
My energy crashed.
My mood tanked.
My digestion revolted.
My hormones lost their damn minds.

I wasn’t losing weight.
I was losing my sanity.

Everything changed when I stopped restricting and started nourishing.

Your Body Wants Nourishment, Not Control

Your midlife body thrives on:
Protein
Fiber
Healthy fats
Whole grains
Enough calories
Hydration
Stable blood sugar
Regular meals

Not chaos.
Not starvation.
Not food rules.

When you nourish instead of deprive, you:
Increase energy
Reduce cravings
Improve sleep
Balance hormones
Support metabolism
Build strength
Feel grounded again

This is the “secret.”
And it’s inconvenient as hell for the diet industry.

Your body will tell you everything you need to know.

The Line You’ll Want to Remember

Dieting is punishment. Nourishment is power.

Midlife is not your downfall.
It’s your rise.

Why This Episode Matters

Because women have been conditioned to believe that control equals health and that midlife means trying harder, shrinking more, and accepting less.

No.
Hard pass.

This episode is about reclaiming trust with your body.
Ending the cycle.
And choosing partnership over punishment.

A Personal Note + What’s Next

Today, I turn 50.

It’s about food, strength, hormones, mindset, and confidence, without pressure, perfection, or punishment.
