In lieu of your Weekly Love Your Naked Ass Lift, I decided I wanted to share with you an interview I had with the owner of See Beautiful™. If you are not familiar with this website and movement, you need to check them out.
Their goal is simple: to provide us with a way we can see more beautiful in the world. Their mission is amazing and in a word, BEAUTIFUL! Enjoy!
What is “See Beautiful™?”
To us, See Beautiful™ is a movement to empower girls and women to see the beauty they inherently possess, while also inspiring all to see more beautiful in the world. Because this idea of See Beautiful™ is based on what others see, we like that it’s going to mean something uniquely beautiful to every single person the movement touches. We don’t know what See Beautiful™ means to the many people who have inspired us by sharing their See Beautiful™ stories, but we have learned that it matters to them in their own ways. The movement to See Beautiful™ isn’t meant to be a linear “thing,” but a malleable movement to leave the world a better place.
What inspired you to start this movement?
The perfect storm of degrading women and lack of value acknowledged and recognized for individuals’ own strength and goodness. I listened to young girls talk about a yearning for achieving pop culture’s skewed standard of beauty. I listened to an eight-year-old tell me she was going to “throw-up to be pretty like her sister.” My heart ached to hear girls often complement each other on their magazine-cover-style versus the strength and beauty they possessed. As pop culture floods our world with an image of beauty that is in direct contradiction of actual beauty, the “seeking” unnatural beauty movement gains momentum. We started See Beautiful™ because seeing and celebrating what you have that is beautiful – already – is worlds healthier than seeking someone else’s unjustified, unhealthy definition of beautiful that often strips girls and women of their self-esteem, courage and strength.
What would someone find on your site?
Well, during the month of January they would have found you as our See Beautiful Woman of the Month feature. We try to honor and showcase opportunities for others to see beautiful and our See Beautiful™ Woman of the month is one of our moving parts. We feature a list of wonderful resources for girls and women. We feature eco-friendly products that are all hand-made, hand-pressed and/or purchased fair trade that are tangible reminders to see beautiful. We feature a non-profit every month and contribute a portion of all sales to the non-profit. We share what we call, “See Beautiful’s” every month that honor the philosophy of seeing beautiful. Our See Beautiful’s are there to inspire and motivate every month. We also have a See Beautiful™ blog that we update daily with the musings from the world that offer all an opportunity to see more beautiful.
How did eco-friendly jewelry come to be part of See Beautiful?
From the day we conceptualized of See Beautiful™ we knew we wanted to provide others with a tangible way to see beautiful and a reminder to themselves of their own beauty. Providing eco-friendly products was a natural conceptualization as well. Being that See Beautiful™ is committed to making this world a better place, it was absolutely imperative that we do that through our products. In fact, we have many other product ideas, but right now we cannot obtain those products in an eco-friendly format, so instead of squander our beliefs, we wait. We will always and only sell eco-friendly.

How do you See Beautiful?
I see beautiful in everything. Seeing beauty in everything is a choice perspective. In all honesty, sometimes it’s not easy to remember seeing beautiful is a choice. I can chose to see something other than beautiful, and I’m human, so I make that slip; however, the longer See Beautiful™ exists, we grow more inspired by humanity and the outpouring of others’ abilities to see beautiful in what could be otherwise described as tragedy, we find that more and more we simply make the choice to find the beauty in everything. The more we do that, the more beautiful we actually see. The more beautiful we feel. The more beautiful we share. It’s a fantastically wonderful cycle to see beautiful. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.
How can we help your movement?
Simple. See beautiful. At the heart of everything we’re doing, our hope is for others to simply and wonderfully see beautiful. If you see beautiful in something you didn’t and we reminded you to see beautiful, our work is done. You’ve joined the movement. You’re making the world a better place and that’s what this is all about. Simply, See Beautiful™.

See Beautiful is totally inspiring, isn’t it? I’ve been following them from Day 1 and they’ve yet to cease to inspire me to see beautiful everyday. I catch myself now noticing things I would have pre-See Beautiful overlooked, and I think to myself. I’m so glad that you’re sharing this movement on your site Kimberly!
