How many of you know you should exercise but hate doing it? Have you ever started an exercise program with the best intentions but within days or weeks felt bored or lacked the motivation to continue? Have you ever used “I don’t have time” as your excuse of why you never exercise?
Well, ladies, you are not alone. Not everyone loves to work out. Hell, few people like to do it. I actually really enjoy it. As long as I change my routine up quite a bit, I will stick to it. So, I know, you must be thinking “what a freak” but the reality is I feel better about myself when I exercise. The key to feeling good in your own skin is to take care of it. That unfortunately means you have to move your body and fuel it with good food. There are no other options.
I am sorry to burst your bubble but there is no magic pill, potion or lotion that will get you the results you are yearning for. Put your money away! Stop buying into the latest scam and as Nike says, “Just Do It!”. Remember, movement is the key piece to feeling HOT!
So I have decided that every month I will feature ways you can keep your body in tip-top shape and love what you see when you look in the mirror.
For those of you who can’t stand to go to the gym and would never pop in an exercise DVD, here are 21 ways you can get your ass moving today. Basically ladies, you are out of damn excuses!!!
- Go for a stroll. Grab a friend, your child and/or your ipod.
- Turn on your favorite music and dance. No one has to see you so go get your groove on!
- Park in the space furthest away from your destination. Walk the rest of the distance. I promise it won’t kill you!
- Grab your bike and hit the park or your local trails. Who knows? A really hot guy might have the same idea.
- Put on your wetsuit (or bathing suit or whatever floats your boat) and go for a swim in your local pool, lake or ocean.
- Find your green thumb. Plant your own vegetable garden. There’s truly nothing yummier than eating food you’ve grown yourself.
- Skip the elevator…take the stairs. Take them two at a time and get a rock hard behind.
- Pick up a jump rope. We loved them as kids so why the hell not?
- Mow your lawn. Of course I am talking about using a push mower so all you lazy bones out there…put the rider away!
- Go shoot some hoops. It worked for Michael Jordan. Okay, so we all want to be a little bit like Mike.
- During commercials of your favorite TV show, stretch, do squats, or abdominal crunches. Yes, I am really asking you to put down that bowl of ice cream.
- Clean your house. You can always ramp up the fun by creating your own version of the “dishwasher dance“.
- Play catch with your child. Who knows–he could be the next Chase Utley.
- Grab a racket. Play tennis, racquetball, squash, ping pong, or for shits and giggles, imagine someone you are really annoyed with and swing at the air as if it were them. At least you’ll break a sweat!
- Take dance lessons. Learn salsa, hip hop, belly dancing or hell, they even have pole dancing lessons if the urge strikes you.
- Hit the trails and take a hike. Nature is calling you!
- Hoola Hoop. No joke…it’s a surefire way to get those hips moving and it’s fun to watch others try to master it. It is not as easy as it looks.
- Try yoga or tai chi. Flexibility is so important. It is amazing what positions you might find useful.
- Pull out your roller skates. This is a great way to tone those legs. Bye-bye flabby thighs!
- Walk to the store instead of drive. That way you can eat that candy bar without having any guilt, after all, you walked it off!
- Have sex. I am serious. Having sex often can actually burn calories and tone your body. Woo-hoo! I bet you are all going to climb into the sheets tonight!
So, what are you going to do today? This week? What is your favorite way to stay active? Leave a comment. I would love to hear from you.

I prefer option 21 myself!
Thanks for the great list…you’re right, now I definately can’t make any excuses.
This was a delight to read. I love walking my dogs. I’m also a golf and actually LIKE when it’s cart path only. That means the course is wet..BUT it also means we have to do tons more walking. I have friends that will carry their bag in the evenings when the course is not as busy. I have too much stuff in mine to do that:)

How did you think of 21 of these? Great work. Sometimes I will walk on my tiptoes and then on my heels thru my house to work different muscles! I also have a mini-trampolene behind my desk so I can take “bounce” breaks! thanks, Amy

I love the your idea of taking “bounce” breaks. What fun! My son would love that!
Hi Kimberley,
That was great, Unintentional exercise I guess you can call it. My partner and i have recently purchased a treadmill which we have in our room so it is right in our faces basically to remind us to get on it and go for a walk or run. So far so good, Thanks for reminding me of many other fun options!
